Daily deal sites are a dime-a-dozen, but most of them force you to accept whatever deal they're offering that day, and if you don't like it, you delete it, hope tomorrow's is better, and move on. YipIt is different: the service aggregates daily deals from all of the web's most popular services, filters them based on your preferences, and only shows you the deals you actually want to see, and only when you want to see them.
Yipit only requires an email address to sign up. Once you have an account, the app asks you to walk through the types of deals you'd like to be notified about. You can select or de-select specific deal categories at any time if the results don't work for you, and the site gives you examples of each so you know what you're getting into before you sign up. Then, the service asks you whether you'd like emails daily, twice a week, once a week, or never (as in, you'll come to the site when you want to shop).
If you choose, you can connect YipIt to your FourSquare account to be notified of daily deals at places you or your friends visit often, but it's not required. The flexibility and customization options that YipIt provides are enough to make it worth a look, but if it means I'll never see another misdirected "Brazilian Waxing" or "Teeth Whitening" or "Microdermabrasion" deal from LivingSocial again, I'll be happy.
