In his latest ? Letter from the Producer?, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn producer Naoki Yoshida said that the alpha test for the game will begin on Monday October 29. The producer also states that players who couldn?t get into this testing phase will have more chances to play the game before release in the next testing phases.

Final Fantasy XIV, second online-only entry after Final Fantasy XI in the acclaimed Square-Enix JRPG series ,was released on September 2010 on PC with a PS3 version to follow.
The game, however, was met with widespread negative reception: the game?s structure was considered broken, many bugs and glitches were present, the game?s economy was considered excessively complicated and the overall opinion was that the game was released in an incomplete state, rendered almost unplayable by bad design choices.

In December 2010 Square Enix president Yoichi Wada announced a shift in the game?s development team: producer Naoki Yoshida took over producer and director?s duties after previous producer Hiromichi Tanaka had resigned. A few changes were made to the game, improving overall gameplay.
But it?s on October 2011 that things really started taking a different turn with the announcement of a Final Fantasy XIV version 2.0 called A Realm Reborn, not just a simple revision but a total relaunch of the game: a new server system will be implemented as well as a new graphics engine, new interface, additional character creation options, new jobs and more player vs player content.

The final release date for Final Fantasy XIV: A Real Reborn is still set for a generic 2013. The long delayed PS3 version of the game will be released shortly after the PC version.
